Dani,
I don't know if you got a response to the hike up the gorge question but there is a great area just by Lewis & Clark State Park, underneath I84 on the North side of the freeway that is off leash & totally wonderful!! Tons of trails, it is easy to get lost! I know because that happened to my sis & I, however, dog people being the friendly sorts they are helped us out!! Because our boys were not much help, they were having too much fun!
we order them online, actually from the hyperflite site. I think they might carry them at the kite store up on NW 23rd though. they used to, but I am not sure they still do.
anyway, we have tried a few different kinds, but are partial to: SofFlite and the jawz discs.
SofFlite is made of a more bendy plastic, kind of rubbery, but is still easy to throw, and is easier on the dog's mouth. at first charlie wouldn't use anything but those. however, they do get worn out and can be punctured. charlie sometimes carries them stuck on a tooth.
the jawz discs last much longer. and they would be better for a dog that likes to chew. we like the midnight sun (glow-in-the-dark) since we play every night and it gets dark early in winter. i think we used our first glowy one for about a year and a half before it cracked and we had to replace it.
