We often have clients who are working towards training goals and the dog park or daycare isn't an option for them. I'm looking for some great alternatives for those who's dogs need more stimulation then they can provide while working long hours. Can anyone recommend great dog walkers who is experienced enough to work with dogs who have idiosyncrasies? I know a couple great ones, but they are so booked they aren't taking new clients!
In the Pearl Sienna Bailey and Ashley Pressler are very good dog walkers. Sienna knows a lot about dogs, she's a dictionary and resource on lots of things dog.
I think Kristen and Shana at Furry Godmothers are very good and also know a lot. But maybe long hikes don't go with training exactly.
I'm sure that many members are tuned to this request and either provide it or know who does.
I think most of us dedicated dog walkers, who do this the majority of our day, have learned by experience and proactively educated ourselves on how to deal with some of the most common issues (aggression, fear, fear of odd things, pulling, etc..) There are only a few of my clients who have dogs with little to no issues, which makes our job interesting!
I network with a lot of great dog walkers, if you let me know what area you are in, I'd be happy to offer some names of people to check out! ~ Sheri
Hi,
I interviewed three different dogwalkers to take care of my Zoey who had some "special needs" while recovering after having back surgery. I decided on TAILBLAZERS, operated by Christine Crowley, as she and an employee, Becky, seemed the most calm and best with what I needed for Zoey. More details are on my member site here and also in this group. You can reach her thru the website "tailblazerspdx.com Good Luck!!
I agree with Sheri that if you're going to be a dog walker you better know a thing or two about dogs! Likewise, most of the dogs I walk have issues with other dogs which is why they are opting for a dog walk instead of day care or dog parks. The key to being an effective dog walker (among other things) is knowing what works and what doesn't for each dog and trying to get a handle on what one's clients are doing toward reaching their doggy training goals. As we all know, consistency is key so I have my clients show me what they currently do or what their trainer is helping them do so we can all be on the same page. And we maintain a dialogue about what is working and what isn't (sometimes you're the only one that walks them!) Ultimately, interviewing several dog walkers and being picky about who you choose to take your precious pooch on a walk is the best way to go. Hope that helps!

I agree there are terrific resources in the community and it's a community that networks and collaborates.
It makes finding the right service for you and your dog easier and gives you more options.
I'm so happy to learn about the services we have, so many I didn't know about before. We are overflowing with talent and expertise. The sharing of information is helpful to everyone.
I am a dog walker working predominately in Sellwood and West Moreland. I do have quite a bit of experience in different arenas working with doggies who have certain issues. I agree with what a lot of you are saying - pretty much all of the dogs I walk have issues of pulling, stubbornness or aggressive barking, etc. It's unfortunately rare to work with a dog who doesn't ! :)
I am constantly encouraging people to take classes with their dogs. Many people don't realize that dog school isn't just for puppies.
I will typically have the owner demonstrate and describe how and what they and the trainer are doing on walks and around the home, then mimic that technique to keep it reinforced.
I love to learn peoples different techniques and it is so encouraging to see what works.
I have a dogwalker - My Dog Walker and More - that we have been working with the past couple of months. Paige does the west side and her business partner does the east side. I live in the Tanasbourne area and had a really hard time finding anyone that would come out this way.
Paige has been fantastic with Boomer and works on commands with him as well. I would highly recommend her!
