Yesterday Heffner and I did an agility fun match put on by the Columbia Agility Team (CAT)! This is the second one that we've been to and it's been a really great experience both times! Since we haven't entered a trial as of yet, I figured this would be great for us to both get a more laid back feel for what a trial is actually going to be like. It's definitely a lot different walking the course myself and trying to figure out where I need to be, how I need to cue Heffner, and what speed I need to try and have him at to correctly hit all the obstacles. When we're in our class our instructor will give us pointers either beforehand or as I'm flubbing something up, as to how I most likely want to handle a certain section. At the matches it's all me!
He did quite well! Still having problems hitting the entrance to the weaves the first time, but I think that's going to be a work in progress for a while. I was also having a hard time figuring out how to orient him and myself to get him to take the correct entrance to a tunnel after a jump. I tried going on either side and we just couldn't get it unless I got him to sort of loop around after the jump and THEN hit the tunnel entrance. He's coming along really well though, and I'm very proud of my boy! We still have a little ways to go before I feel that we're both getting really solid on handling things, but we're definitely getting there! I think we're going to start looking entering a trial before the year is out.
