Paws Across Portland at Eco-Trust Building in the Pearl

Paws across Portland is an annual fun-filled family and pet friendly event held at the Eco-Trust Building in the Pearl.
Vendors that appeal to humans and animals alike, raffle drawings, great food and Live Music by Radio Disney.

- I am fortunate enough to work at a wonderful veterinary clinic in SW Portland (Gabriel Park Veterinary Clinic) where I can combine my love all animals with my career!
In my spare time I enjoy bike riding, hiking, almost all sports, going to Portland Timbers games, drinking coffee, and traveling.

- Six pounds of pure love! Alfie is a yorkie/papillon/maltese mix. He was one of 89 dogs (which grew to 109) rescued from a backyard breeder running an illegal puppy mill in Albany, Oregon. He lived in deplorable conditions with dozens of other dogs in an abandoned single-wide trailer and on dirt in the backyard. I fostered him for Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis for 8 months before the court case ended and I officially adopted him into my home in December 2007. Alfie's DNA Results Are In!
We ran a Wisdom Panel (www.wisdompanel.com) DNA test on Alfie to see exactly what breeds he is made up of.
We guessed that he was Yorkie and Papillon because his features resemble those breeds, but we were surprised when we got his results in!
The puppy mill Alfie was rescued from was home to yorkies, papillons, maltese, chihuahuas, and silky terriers. We knew he had to atleast be a mix of those and were anxious to see if the DNA test actually worked (I am somewhat skeptical of these things!).

Alfie's First E.R. Visit :(
While lying in bed tonight with Alfie, and his brother Maybe the cat were playing around me in their usual way. Alfie jumps on Maybe, Maybe wraps his arms around Alfie and they wrestle. This time my worst fear was realized. It is something I have seen happen many times working at the vet clinic but I didn't really expect it to happen to Alfie. Maybe clawed Alfie's eye really bad and it was gushing blood.

I recently learned about his life prior to you, and that just makes him more precious! Good for you for saving him! Now, I have 2 adorable and amazing Chihuahuas, but if I were to vote for most adorable dog, I think Alfie would totally tie with my beloved babies. At some point, I would find it a priviledge to meet Alfie. :)

Ruby, Whit Whit, and Leann said… - Alfie, I think Ruby, my dog, might be a sibling or relative of yours....Rubes was picked up at a trailer in Albany over 4 years ago. After seeing the horrible conditions, I made complaints to the authorities, unfortunately it took almost 2 years to shut that place down...the world is a small place. Stay well!
