Introduce Yourself

I live in Cedar Hills with my husband John, our three dogs, a cat, and some fish. I started a canine massage practice called Therapeutic Animal Massage (.com) to help owners help their pets in a more natural way. My husband and I both enjoy photography and take our camera and our dogs with us everywhere.

Tell us about your pets

Sydney is our rescue dog. She is a lab/pit/pointer mix and turned 4 this past December. We adopted her from the Oregon humane society.

River is our 3 year old, purebred black labrador retriever. I'm hoping that with some training she will be a great therapy dog.

Fin is our 1 year old black labrador. He's very cute and is a great addition to our family. And he is River's little brother.

Major is a two year old black lab puppy that our neighbors adopted from the humane society. His owners are older so he comes over to play with our girls and get as tired as possible before going back home.

As it turns out, we lost our big shepherd, Harry, 3 weeks ago unexpectedly. He wasn't feeling well,...was having difficulty breathing and after xrays the vet discovered he was bleeding internally. There was nothing we could do but help him drift off peacefully. So we're sad right now but trying to give Dixie the best summer she can have.

I did not her to the vet. I palpated her and found a tender spot in her leg. I applied a little trigger point therapy and she no longer limps.

At 10:08am on June 25, 2009, aisling, aaron, hunty and chomp! said…: hi karen! thanks for pointing in the direction of dr. sulis at mt. tabor vet. we actually had to go there asap b/c my dog had kennel cough! still not sure where that came from but oh well. they were great about seeing a feverish dog having never before had us as clients. and they kept apologizing for sending us through the back to the isolation room (haha!)...he had a blanket and i had a cup of tea so we were happy as could be.
they were really nice and understanding of my endless questions. thanks again, we will hopefully find a "home" here.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is coming up!

I'm not sure how many people here are birders, or if any of you have heard of the GBBC that audubon does each year. It's a chance to pay attention to the birds in your yard, or elsewhere and record them so that audubon can collect all the data together and see where the birds are. Rainy Days are here! How do you combat the mud?

Take it or leave it....the rain has returned. The start of a big rain storm is supposed to hit today and that means muddy paws. I know owning a dog means that floors usually aren't the cleanest (of mud anyway) but I fight the losing battle to keep my carpets clean. We even have a whole cabinet of doggy towels to use to wipe their feet, but it does no good and the mud hides somewhere in those big paws and tracks are left all over the carpet.
