I answered on the list in case others had the same question. I see Jonae already gave you the info on the Kaotic K9s (that's the team I couldn't remember). If they don't do classes, they're probably not a good bet for a beginner as there are a *lot* of basics that have to happen before your dog is really ready to fit into a practice -- though we do a lot of training in our practices, as well. But if they're willing to commit to training a beginner, they are certainly closer for you!
You might want to come watch a class before choosing. We have a tournament this weekend so will not have a class but you'd be welcome to come by next Sunday (4/12) to check us out. I can send you directions & give Greta a heads-up that you're coming -- you can bring Clyde, too, so he can check us out! ;-) I'm sure you'd be welcome at the X-Fidos, too -- they're very nice humans. ;-)

A few of us Portlanders are part of a Canadian team called the Kaotic K9's. We practice in Hillsboro. Jen is the head of our group and her e-mail is jzoffinga@peoplepc.com. If you have any questions you're welcome to call me.

We signed up for the skijoring seminar, too and look forward to meeting you!!
The class on the 31st is for both people and their dogs. That way, if people want to wait until then to buy their harnesses, they can ask questions about fit or what not. I'll have a hand out on basic commands, I'll be bringing the training aids I have for off season and dry land training that will include my scooter. If people have or buy the harnesses I would like for them to be able to try out the scooter at least and/or try some pulling with training aids to get an idea of what to work on for the week inbetween so that everyone is ready to go for the following Sat.!
And the scooter is GREAT! I haven't been as great about dryland training as I intended to be, but it's great to have it so that I have that option. The only thing I had to do was tighten up the brakes once it was put together. That was a little scary! And I'm with you on the roller blades! Both of mine love to chase cats or squirrels when I'm walking or jogging with them, and I just don't want to eat pavement that badly!:O) We'll see you in just a few weeks!
Those are great pictures and I love your blog about the dog parks & conflicts that arise.
I am always advocating for the dogs that "look aggressive" Mine is a Ridgeback/Staffordshire mix and is one of the best 80# lap dogs around!
Thanks for posting it.
