I looked forward to meeting Bridget Pilloud and learning about her business
Pets Are Talking. I'd never spent time with an animal psychic and was curious about her work. I brought Ellie with me hoping we'd get a little preview!
We sat down at a local coffee shop in the Pearl and started talking. One of the first things I noticed is Bridget's down-to-earth nature. Being a bit skeptical, I pictured someone with a crystal ball, not a former corporate marketing manager drinking a latte, and scratching Ellie's chest.
"I didn't expect to be able to talk with animals,” Bridget said. “I had hired animal communicators for my pets, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I realized I could talk with animals myself. I thought it was a gift that people are born with."
When she adopted her horse, Bert, an old soul (pictured below), she found she could understand his thoughts if she really tried. As she practiced, it got easier. Then she was reading for friends and acquaintances. It took her some time to realize that this wasn't just a cool hobby, but a vocation, and she needed to do this for a living.
I asked her 'what she liked about what she did?'
"I make things better,” said Bridget. “I get to improve relationships, which enables people and their pets to be closer to one another and to enjoy each other. I also get to help animals in need. Recently, I helped a horse work through his fear of spiders. He's able to concentrate on his training now. I meet really cool people and their pets."
I asked her, 'What is something about you that most people don't know, that you would like to share?'
Bridget replied: "I've got a much different outlook on animals than I used to. Our animals know so much more about us than we think. They know about our worries. They know about what makes us happy. They deeply understand us. Our pets are often here to help us with our spiritual journeys. We think of them as these little furry buddies, but they are truly much more than that."
Asked 'what is the hardest thing about what you do?' Bridget replied, "Part of intuitive work is feeling what the pets feel. I physically feel their pain, and emotionally feel their feelings. Many pets have dental issues. It's really awful to tune into a dog and find that they need to have all their teeth extracted."
I wanted to know how she could be so confident about her abilities. How could she be so sure that she could do what she did. She said, "It took a lot to grow into that confidence. I did many readings with animals I didn’t know, and had the information validated by their owners. I had to reach a certain peace with having this capability. I think the thing that kept me going is that it has such a good effect on people and pets."
“The 3 ways to know that you’re really connecting with the animal are:
1- The information comes back really quickly. I get an immediate answer from the pet.
2- The information doesn’t sound like something I’d come up with.
3- The information has emotion tied to it. I can feel what the animal feels when they say it.
Once you experience it, it’s pretty easy to tell the difference. “
Getting back to Ellie, Bridget told me that Ellie doesn't have any medical issues (maybe a little headache), and that she loves swimming and Forest Park. Although Ellie doesn't mind being alone at home, she gets concerned about me when I'm not with her, as she feels she is my emotional and spiritual guardian. She feels deeply tied to me. Ellie worries about me and thinks I spend too much time thinking about pdxdog.com.
I hadn't told Bridget one thing about myself or Ellie. She received a lot of information from talking to Ellie in a very distracting space. I was really impressed and definitely want to know more. It was very easy to talk with Bridget and let her talk to Ellie.
Bridget lives in Portland with her life partner Brian, their three boys, plus 2 dogs and 4 cats. She also has 2 horses. She loves hanging out with her family and a close second is eating, she says she has a "dog’s appetite".
Her vision for pets are talking is "a steady stream of clients and a full class schedule of people learning to talk with their pets. I want people to know that my services can be helpful in improving and deepening their relationships, but more than that, I want people to know how to talk with their animals. It's a great gift that I have, but we all have it".
