CANCELLATION ALERT! I'm sorry to have to cancel the scheduled July 10 "Summer Picnic in the Park" this Saturday. I have a work conflict I can't get out of! BUT...we will still have the August and September picnics at GABRIEL PARK (not Mary S. Young anymore!) on August 14 and Sept 11. Look for a new announcement under "Events". Hope to see you there!

I really like seeing the energy in this group. How can we make some of these good ideas happen. That's where the fun will be, in doing the activity. You guys have terrific ideas.

There is an AKC Agility trial in Ridgefield this weekend (Fri-Sun). It is in the horse arena at the Clark Co. Fairgrounds, exit 9 off of I-5 in Vancouver

no charge to come & watch ... Agility is one of the fastest growing sports ... come & see what it is all about :)

Would anyone be interested in getting together to train our dogs more fun tricks? I have a Papillon (who is also my service dog) who loves to learn stuff. I'm a dog trainer (sort of retired) and would love to get together with other dog lovers and do more fun stuff with our dogs. Being a trainer, I could maybe help out with some of the tricks----that is if needed.

Muddy Paws A-Flyin’, the local Salem flyball team, will be hosting its annual winter flyball tournament, the Pineapple Express, on January 30th & 31st, 2010. The tournament will be held at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds, 2070 NE Lafayette Avenue, McMinnville, Oregon.

For those of you who caught all the action at the Marion County Fair in July, the racing will be continuing with 21 teams — almost 150 dogs — entered into the competition. Teams are traveling from British Columbia, Washington and Oregon to compete for the best of their division and the fastest racing time.

Flyball is a dog relay race, with 4-6 dogs and handlers on each team. The first dog/handler watches the drag strip lights and times their start as the green light comes on. Each dog travels over a 51-foot course set with four jumps, triggers the box, catches the tennis ball, and runs back over the four jumps to cross the start/finish line. Then the next dog can run. The excitement builds as the fourth dog on each team starts out on the course. Who will cross the finish line first?

The public is invited to come out and watch. There is no cost for this event. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in flyball! Racing starts at 9 am and continues until 3 pm in the afternoon, both days. A raffle will be held both days with 50 percent of the proceeds going to 2 local animal shelters.
