We've had some good responses from members willing to take on group leadership or co-leadership. Still have some talking to do, but I think this is great news!
How a series of quarterly meetings sound, starting in September?

Give some thought as to what you would like to see at these biz meetings, what would make it worth your time and effort?

Hi Everyone!
This group used to be really active and we lost our group leader. I would love to get this group going again as our meetings were really helpful and great networking.

I would like to find some members who are willing to help make it happen. We used to meet at Lucky Lab NW about once a month. It could be there or somewhere else. It can be as casual as you like. I think all our dog businesses would benefit by meeting each other and networking.

Meeting could even be quarterly, if once a month is too much. We do need some leadership, people who are willing to work on a simple agenda, facilitate the process and take some responsibility for making arrangements. I am a willing partner if others are wanting to help out.

On another subject, we have some members looking for work. I would appreciate your posting any jobs you might have or know about so we can help them out.

I love this group and hope we can get going again soon. Maybe the fall is a good time to start again.

Although this group doesn't appear to be too active, I thought I'd drop in and say "hello" to the members here. My wife, Dr. Louise Mesher, and I own At Home Veterinary Services (http://www.yourathomevet.net), which is a mobile veterinary practice for dogs and cats serving the Portland metro area.

Hopefully, there will be some opportunities to share some more info among the small business owners here.

Hello! I am new to the group and just wanted to say hi. I have been absent from the pdxdog community for a litte while, but I am excited to be back! I just launched a new internet talk show called Pet Shop Talk on VoiceAmerica. My show airs on Tuesday evenings at 5PM online at http://www.modavox.com/voiceamerica/vshow.aspx?sid=1631. I have mentioned this website a few times on the show as a resource for our Oregon listeners. I would love to help promote your businesses as well! If you are interested on being featured on the show, contact me and I can talk with you about the different opportunities. In this economy, we have to do all we can to support one another and keep our pets happy...I hope I can help support you!

Hi Paula,
Thanks so much for taking the time to write some questions and add some ideas. First, I took the pictures off the poll, so hopefully it's much easier to vote.
Yes, we are working on increasing the SEO for pdxdog. As you know there are some really good tricks of the trade. The whole world of social media marketing and advertising is turning a lot of our assumptions upside down. Mine too.
Besides working on the behind the scenes activity, we are introducing some really new features, including podcasts that will be seen on iTunes, You Tube and other sites besides pdxdog. We know that some of them will focus on some of our businesses, as well as compelling issues, ideas, and things we think will ad value to pdxdog and our members.
Christiaan McPherson is a wonderful creative who will be leading this venture. I'm totally excited.
On another note, our ad specials are over with the October 28th upload. The costs and benefits will change to reflect some of our own financial realities.
I am reading a lot and following some of the seminal thinking that is emerging regarding social media. I'm not sure yet how that will effect how I handle supporting the site.
Keep firing away with your great questions. Please take the survey. I love your page and pictures.

Yes! We had a Granddaughter! What a Blessing. My daughter did wonderful, but it was long. So I am off to work today exhausted...

Thanks for you thoughts Kelly. I have respect for your religious beliefs, however, pdxdog is not the site to reflect your faith in pictures, posters, and words that are pictures. We have so many belief systems in this network and I prefer to keep it neutral.
I appreciate your ideas and feedback, all of it helps me see a bigger picture and many different perceptions.
Did you have your grandbaby yet?

Personally I have been reconsidering being involved in a site that does not welcome God, our creator of the whole universe, and think we should be able to express our faith. When posting, people are not forced to read it or look at photo's unless they so choose. There is a lot of restrictions in what people can and cannot do. This might stear people away. I have seen many postings telling others to remove their business stuff and it might be part of it...who knows. I have been self employed and a professional pet groomer, store owner, writer and artist in the public for 28 years. Most my business is created through hard work and professional referral with very little paid advertising. Like Deena we get the bulk of our business because of our creative hard work and talent. I also think that big corp america hurts the small business industry like RiteAid. What ever products they may sell for pets will cut the throat of a smaller business who might have the same product. Been there....done that for a while in the corp. world and don't like it.
Your site is cool and your concept is right on track. I hope it explodes for you. I am still considering advertising, not because I need a load of new business, but because I believe in supporting the small business people in the metro area, not the nation.
Be Blessed and prosperous

from Seth Godin's Blog

Sell like you buy

Here are the two most common pleas I hear from marketers,

"Our product is as remarkable as we can make it, and we're trying really hard and it's very important to us that people buy it, but despite our hard work, it's not selling!" (Hint: calling it a purple cow doesn't make it one).

and

"Our business is built around the status quo, and it's not fair that the market wants something else now."

In both cases, the marketing pitch is focused around the seller, not the buyer. You wouldn't (and don't) buy from someone who says you ought to choose them even though there's a cooler, more remarkable, cheaper, better product. You don't seek out or talk about status quo brands merely because the marketer is trying really hard.

If it's not good enough for you as a consumer, why should it be good enough for you as a marketer?

It's good to hear from people about the
meeting.
I'm going to leave it in other people's hands. The parragon needed
to know and I didn't see the interest, maybe another time and place.
I would like to see a productive agenda designed to help our businness members connect and be helpful.
I hadn't expected dogs to be present, to distracting from the purpose.

I'm sure a future meeting can be organized to be useful with the holiday season around the corner.
