I hear an incrediable amount of terrible stories because of the type of dog I own. I often have people come up to me and ask whether or not I heard about "that story..." Its depressing and frusterating, especially when I know what I know after reading The Pitbull Placebo by Karen Delise. Such an amazing book, and its first part is totally focused on media reporting on dog attacks. The history of the media and dog stories is so interesting- only later does she address pitbulls and other "vicious" breeds in media today. Its an excellent book for anyone to read- If anyone has positive dog stories, especially those involving maligned breeds- do let me know! I can use a cheer up now and again, that's for sure!

Wow! I am so glad I did not vote for the Republican party. I am also part of a Ban BSL (breed specific legislation) group. Ohio (where I am from originally has BSL and Colorado. It is feel good legislation! Instead of dealing with the real social issues! I am a huge animal lover and planning a trip to a Wolf Sanctuary in California next month:)

Nevermind that she shoots wolves from a helicopter.

I hate that Palin made that comment about pitbulls. It implies that pitbulls are...fill in the blank...aggressive, unrelenting, etc. I wish she could just stick to talking about politics and keep any pitbull analogies to herself.

Sunday, So sorry it has taken me awhile to check back:) Resources: BUG the librarian!!!! I love that our tax dollars go for such a GREAT resource! The library has some awesome free links to all the great colleges that have actually published papers and articles on dogs from pre history. Yes, I have read a Yahoo article about the small dog found with the mummy child - VERY COOL STUFF! Yahoo has a link to archeology articles and they pull from Science websites - some .com ones- so be careful and verify those. I trust the ,edu and .org websites as they are peer reviewed by professionals in that expertise. I do not think anyone has lumped all this information in a book - I am sure 100% it would get published! I would buy it in a heartbeat! I'll have to dig out an old research paper I did on the Aboriginal people of Austarlia. I think I had referenced a book that had a chapter on dogs of peoples from about 10,000 A.D. This could help you, too. The library can even order you books from colleges and other libraries. You have to really ASK them because they want to just give you what's there and is available, but this is REAL research. Iwill get back to you with some web links as well. Keep on working hard - it will pay off:)

Hmmm, College, have not thought about that in a while. What a good resource! Is there a national college book base on line or something. Like maybe something proffessors would or could choose from? Got my wheels turning! I'm in a slump, going back to my outline again, I always get distracted. I have so much info that I have to others I'm shoving info in! LOL

OMG! Before or after the ice age? Response to Jenne n Jackie's last post. I believe domestication took place before. Got any good reads? Always searching for the newest and the oldest documentation. I have pretty much everything up to or back to 8000BC. I did hear of a 60,000 year old mummy child and pup but I can't find anything on that, not even on line. There is a 3,000 year old child mummy of South America and a puppy, have you heard of that. Short hair breed, I think. Found that it in Before Columbus. About 3-years ago. I took one archeology class at psu, mummy of egypt and etruscan ruins, not much more. I took a whole lotta math, science and biology though... loved it!

I would just like to congratulate Sunday: WOW! It think it is great that you are working on a book:) There are so many tidbits of information I can try and dig up for you from archeology classes I took at the University of Michigan. There have been remains of early humans found with tiny dogs-as if the dogs were the pets of early humans. Try not to look at .com sites and peer reviewed material is more acurate- anything from colleges and universities are best. There are some wonderful journals- archeology and anthropology ones that would help your research. The articles would be much smaller that books, too. Good luck with the book!

I am currently working on a book on human cultural geography, it's migration and the canines that went with them. I have done a lot of research on every breed especially on the many that I have owned so if people would like to know more info I would be more than happy to discuss, especially as I am still researching and writing. I always find out so much more from conversing than just simply going down to the library, seems that people have a lot of information to help my direction towards more hard core facts and reading material. I know, I'm a dog dork.
