Great Walks & Places to Go with your Dog(s)

I bet we all have great places to walk, swim and play with our dogs. Some are just "great finds"! This is the place to share some of those favorite hikes, walks, and special places.

Does anyone know a place where we could let our 3 dogs off leash (with little or no risk of being surprised by other dogs) ie: not crowded within an hour or so outside Portland? We've only lived her a couple of years and are still exploring. We would love to find a creek/lake that's out of the way. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip on Camp Sherman Andrea. Sounds awesome. I have 3 dogs so we're always looking for quiet places to bring them.

Check out www.metoliusriver.com - Camp Sherman outside of Black Butte. The cabins are right on the river, great general store, a wonderful restaurant and terrific fun for the dogs.

I found it by asking around on a little road trip with Ellie. I never would have found it if I hadn't stopped at a local fruit stand!

Hi everyone! I am the owner of Go Fetch. It is a coupon book for dog owners. I am in my second year, and I am adding 3 sections: The Oregon Coast, Vancouver and Central Oregon. I will be looking for businesses who want to advertise their pet friendly lodging (or other dog related business) for the issue coming out in Sept.

See the website www.gofetchbooks.com

Thanks!

I'm looking for a good one-night desitination for me and my dog. I've never been to Bend, and thought about going there this weekend. Does anyone have suggestions about what to do in Bend - good hikes, etc. Or, can you recommend another drivable location that would be fun - even just for a day trip. We always go to the coast, which is great, but I'm looking to switch it up this time.

There is a great area, off leash too, that is accessible off of SW 72nd & Durham; drive in to the neighborhood and you'll see a small park with parking. Once you cross the creek, off leash is acceptible. There is a very large field for playing fetch and around 1 mile of paved trails with creek access for the dogs to take a dip. FYI...there is no water or poop bags available so bring your own. You can also access this area by going to the park along the Tualatin river and walking across the Tualatin River bridge.

Zeus is a fan of Kelly Point Park in St. John's. A great place to run, swim and play with other dogs.

The Field in the Pearl - end of NW 10th Ave: a sort of impromptu dog park has evolved from this huge grassy area that is slated to become a "real" park at some time in the near future. In the meantime, it has become the neighborhood dog park--there are benches and pooper scooper stations. it's a huge grassy field that's loads of fun for the neighborhood dogs--lots of room to run and play! I don't know if very many people know it's there since it's at the end of the Pearl but it sure beats having your dog on a leash in Jamieson or, heck, walking the perimeter of Tanner Springs (fooie!). I just really REALLY hope when the "real" park goes in, they give dogs a good portion of the Field--or, even better, leave it the way it is!!!

We LOVE Mary S Young Park in West Linn! It is a great place to stroll and let your pup play in the river!!
